CIRCLE OF LIFE Cervis Canadensis, Rocky Mountain Elk
This print is a tribute to the imposing beauty of such a magnificent animal. It is a beautiful and captivating piece of art which has layers of meaning. Their long history, rooted in Gods’ creation, has adapted them to inhabit numerous environments in the wild places of North America. Their life is a hard one, yet their continuing lifecyle has been one as a survivor. From birth, the calves are a priority for prey, yet their mothers are always standing guard. At the arrival of the Fall rut, the arresting antlers of the bulls are weapons of eminence. Their haunting bugles echo through the aspens calling for challengers. After the rut, they gather in herds numbering up to the thousands. A journey begins, following the ancient paths of their ancestors, to their wintering grounds at lower elevations. When Spring comes, they head back as the lush grasses grow in place of the lingering snow. As such, the bulls shed their antlers, and the cycle begins once again.
